Here's more about Spencer

Name: Spencer Curtis Nield

Company Position: Project Manager

What does your role entail? Oversee the construction of building custom homes; have great communication and coordination and deliver a high-quality finished product

Past Experience/Background: 12 years in residential as a superintendent and project manager and 8 1/2 years in structural steel as a project manager

What do you enjoy about working in the construction industry? Every day there is a challenge to overcome. Figuring out a solution and then working to overcome the challenge so the project moves forward. I like the creativity of construction and knowing there are many ways to reach the end goal. I also like creating good relationships with customers and other trade partners.

What type of construction is your favorite? High-end residential

What do you enjoy about working for AFT Construction? Knowing that I am working for and with others that care about me personally and want me to be happy at work and at home.

What was your first job? Working for my grandpa on his farm in Idaho; raising cattle, irrigating and harvesting hay and grain, and doing all kinds of fun farm jobs.

Where were you born? Idaho Falls, Idaho

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a home remodel or building a new home? “Anyone” can build a home, but how well it’s done and how you feel about the experience in the end depends on the people building it. Choose a great team to build it and trust their knowledge and expertise.

Best advice you were ever given? I have a couple quotes that I wrote on my clipboard years ago. The first is, “If you don’t know the answer, don’t ask the question,” Bob Campbell. I learned from him to research and understand the answers to the problem at hand and then provide a solution to the question. The second is, “When the superintendent runs the job, the job runs well,” Larry Donnenfield. This one is self-explanatory, I think.

Do you have any hidden talents? I have written a few poems (yes, I do have a softer side).

When is the last time you climbed a tree? I recently climbed a ladder to hang on a branch to see if it would hold a swing for my kids.

Favorite kind of birthday cake: Brownies and ice cream

Favorite food: Mexican food and I like to make sous vide steaks and sear them with a big propane torch.

If you had a time machine, would you travel back in time or into the future? Back in time to see how the pyramids were built and also to parachute into Normandy on D-Day.

If you had a time machine, would you travel back to meet your ancestors or into the future to meet your descendants? Back in time to say thank you.
