PROJECT:
Biltmore Modern Remodel
The owners wanted to remodel their Al Beadle mid-century Biltmore townhouse with a blend of mid-century and modern styles.
HIGHLIGHTS
Industrial Modern – By combining elements such as the high gloss white cabinetry with unfinished steel accents, AFT was able to deliver the industrial modern look the owners set out to achieve. To further achieve this look, the owners opted for cabinets consisting of all doors and no drawers. Instead, the cabinets were built with pull-out drawers located behind the cabinet doors. In addition, instead of using cabinet hardware, all of the doors are touch-latch or push to open, which created completely flush surfaces and clean lines, adding to the minimalist, modern design. Space was maximized by installing floor to ceiling cabinetry in the majority of the kitchen.
Technology – Just because the owners chose white cabinets and countertops doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy a pop of color. AFT installed Philips Hue LED light strips for the under-cabinet lighting, allowing the owners to not only control the lighting from their smart devices, but also change the color of the lighting at a whim. To further enhance the minimalist design with flush surfaces and clean lines, AFT installed a dishwasher that incorporates the same high-gloss white cabinet surface and utilizes “knock to open” technology. This allows the dishwasher to be essentially be completely hidden from view. Can you find it in the photos?
Outdoor Space – You can’t live in Arizona without having an outdoor space to enjoy the great weather. AFT installed a new second floor deck using Trex composite decking material. Trex provides the owners with a low-maintenance deck that is resistant to fading and stains. To create a sense of privacy, AFT installed a divider panel to separate their space from the adjacent neighbors.
RESULTS
When deciding to remodel their newly purchased townhome, it was important to the owners that they pay homage to the mid-century architectural style in which Al Beadle envisioned. The owners succeeded by bringing the exterior clean lines designed by Beadle inside the home. The selection of high-gloss white cabinets and unfinished steel creates modern, dramatic spaces.
